Today, Nick Herbert MP called for a debate to mark World TB Day.
Mr Herbert, who co-chairs the APPG on Global TB, noted that TB remains the world's deadliest infectious disease globally, highlighting both the high number of cases in the UK and the threat posed by drug-resistance.
Following the UN High-Level Meeting on TB, Mr Herbert emphasised the importance of a successful sixth replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, noting that "it's time to end TB".
In her response, the Leader of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon Andrea Leadsom MP, acknowledged the work of the APPG on Global TB. Ms Leadsom noted the UK's existing leadership through the Global Fund and reaffirmed the Governments commitment to continue doing so, but recognised that far more needed to be done to tackle TB effectively.
